In the port city of New Damsire, the daily hustle and bustle of the crowded city was finally quieting down as the warm, setting sun slowly made its way down past the horizon. Many ponies were going home after a hard day at work and getting for the night life that will surely follow. But not for one filly who was pacing around in an unassuming street, quietly muttering to herself.
"Gah, where is that lazybones? He's like... so late!" The filly let out a frustrated sigh, despite the fact she had no idea what time it was, and thus no idea when they were suppossed to meet. The purple pegasus with lightning blue hair was a bit eccentric like that. The filly sighed again and sat down on the side of the road, watching any ponies and cars pass by.
She was here for a specific reason: her first very quest as an aspiring adventurer. It was a simple quest, one she got by asking random ponies if they had a quest, while using the puppy dog eyes manuever. An old earth pony lady, whom she had already forgot the name of, had finally relented and said she had a pest problem. Rats constantly made her way in to her house, and her pantry, and no matter what she did, they kept coming. So Hijinks' plan was to enlist the help of her teacher, who was probably a good detective, and find the rats nest and destroy it! Or poison it... Hijinks didn't mind.
Still... Hijinks thought as she looked around, it wouldn't hurt to get more companions with me.
Tel Locus ran carrying his books and other materials. When a young filly came up to him asking him to help with a rat problem he simply nodded and accepted to help. Only now does he regret not dismissing this as another one of those schemes the Filly came up with. The tan Unicorn had grey hair despite his age, though he behaved in a sense of maturity attributed to full grown adults. Sometimes at the expense of other peers who called him a busy body. But that didn't matter, he had to get busy helping this filly so he had in tow various materials on the subject of rat catching, he may not be that physically adept but he was an expert at magic and the education field.
"Coming," he panted breathing like he ran a marathon when in reality it was only a half a block from his apartment "This is not my best posture I wish I had studied methods to run faster before I left" he wheezed stopping in front of the filly before leaning against a wall to breath easier.
A plump face with two watchful eyes gazed worriedly from a cobbled-together car as it rattled down the street. Sweet Tooth hoped she'd make the appointment to help clear the rats. She was in bad need of some work as of late, as selling re purposed junk wasn't cutting corners. Of course, she'd rather it didn't involve working with rodents who could carry disease, but beggars couldn't be choosers. Sweet Tooth bit her lip as she spotted the filly who'd offered her the job. She was standing on the sidewalk with a tan unicorn stallion.
The car came to a shuddering halt beside them. The driver's side door squeaked as she opened it, huffing as she squeezed her huge bulk through the doorway. Sweet Tooth donned a shy smile as she waddled over to the two.
"H-Heya guys..." She looked to Hijinks and the unicorn, clearing her throat. "Is this the place?"
Hijinks stood up as her teacher cantered over, looking utterly exhasuted. She snickered at the older pony's condition. "Oh hai, Teach," she greeted him as she moved over to look through Tel's books. The titles of the books didn't matter, she only wanted the biggest and heaviest one to smash rats with.
"Hm. This one looks good," she said as she picked out the largest book. "A lot of rat smashing potential."
Before she could do the right thing and ask Tel for permission to use his book, a car pulled up in front of them. She recongnised it instantly for a car of that size and style is definately something she's only seen once. From the large pony who she offered the job to, to be precise. Not that this job is going to be paying much... She was unsure if she actually mentioned how much she was getting paid for this, which was around ten moneys. Oh well, she was sure the larger pony wouldn't mind.
"Oh hai, Sweet!" she greeted the larger pony as she walked up to them. "This is indeed the location of my grandest, and first, quest!" She pointed to the unassuming house that they were all positioned in front of. "We just need to knock. But first, maybe we should wait for any other ponies to show up. I mean, I did ask like... a bunch of people."

Soothing Aqua was on was on leave, the purple scaled with blue spots Kelpie medic had butter yellow coloured mane with a blue stripe thought it, she was her way home to visit her folks before being stopped by a blue maned Pegasus filly who rather enthusiastically explained that she was on a quest and had invited to hire Aqua into her team before looking at her with puppy dog eyes.
At first Aqua though it was the cute rambling of a child before coming to realize that the filly was serious, she was relived to hear the young Pegasus would not be on her own but had decided to accept the offer if only to prevent or quickly heal any injuries.
Knowing that her adversary would just be rats and not wanting to scare the old lady (and not wanting any accidents) Aqua did not to bring her rifle with her, instead opting to picking up a big stick along the way as she cantered towards the address, making sure that she arrived early.
As the address came into view Aqua noticed that their where 2 other ponies, a tan coloured unicorn stallion and an overweight mare.
Aqua greeted the group cheerfully and explained that she was a medic.
Tel begins to catch his breath looking at the other mares shaking his head "I don't know who you all are so I assume I should introduce myself. I'm Tel Locus, Archaeologist Not sure what use I'll be but I checked out a lot of books about pesticides and other methods to identify and kill the rats as we go along." He picks up his books and notices one is missing "Where is the history of rat catching by P. Piper?" he begins to look around frantically "If anything happens to that book the librarian will flay me."
He begins to search till he sees Hijinks Has it "Please give me that book young one, I have no patience to be playing games. I'm obligated to help and that's it. Now give me that book or I'll be forced to take it from you."
Hijinks nodded to the new pony, apparently the healer for the group, and suddenly spoke up. "Alright!" she shouted over any more chatter, inclusing Tel's insistance that he wants his book back. Although she did relent and place the book back upon the unicorn's head.
"We got an important mission here today," she stated matter-of-factly as she hover paced in front of her three allies. "An old defenseless lady has her house besieged by... rats! Nasty rats too! and it's up to us to find out where they're coming from and putting a stop to the menace. Once. And. For. All!" she stated dramatically, even posing for a little bit.
Suddenly the filly relaxed and with a calm smile said, "Okay. Now we knock." And with that, the filly dashed up to the front door of the old house. It was not that big of a house, but it was a two story building positioned right next to an alleyway. A dark alleyway that probably won't play any importance to the case. With a hearty triple knock, the filly moved back and waited for the elderly pony to answer.
After a few seconds, the filly turned around to look at her companions, "I think this is the right place... I dunno, I'm forge-" she had no time to finish as the door creaked upon, revealing a kind elderly pony.
"Ah. Hello, child," she said as she took in the sight of the purple pegasus. Her smile vanished though as she looked up at the filly's companions. Most likely, she expected Hijinks' 'friends' to be of the same age. "Ah, you must be her... 'friends'," she greeted a bit cautiously. "Feel free to come in," she said, opening the door wider and gesturing inside. "I left cookies in the living room if any of you are interested."
Hijinks was gone in an instant, making a mad dash to where she could smell a fresh batch of cookies. The old earth pony only chuckled at the filly's excitement.
Sweet Tooth stood awkwardly on the sidewalk as the filly greeted her, shifting her hefty weight from hoof to hoof. The tools on her tool belt rattled around her enormous waistline. She'd brought along some things she thought might be useful; an adjustable wrench, a carpenter's hammer, some nails and screws, a pair of tin snips and some screw drivers. For dealing with the rats she'd brought a large wooden mallet that she was hoping she wouldn't have to use and a couple of scavenged and repaired mousetraps.
Sweet Tooth glanced to the unicorn and nodded, then looked to see a curiously colored kelpie arriving just behind her. The Kelpie introduced herself as a medic. Sweet Tooth smiled pleasantly, but at the same time was hoping that the rats weren't going to give them a reason to need a medic.
"I'm, uh, Sweet Tooth," said the tinker.
She followed Hijinks as the filly led them to the house, waving a little as the mare greeted them at the door. Sweet Tooth's ears poked up as a familiar scent reached her nose. Cookies.
"Th-thank ya ma'am." She smiles as she waddled inside behind Hijinks.

Soothing Aqua was a little embarrassed that she introduced her profession but forgot to introduce herself, she waited for the others to finish first before adding, "And my name is Soothing Aqua"
After the enthusiastic and dramatic explanation of our "Important mission" and the opening of the door, Aqua briefly considered asking Tel if he wanted help carrying his books as he looked a bit tired with all his hard breathing, but decided against it, Aqua did a quick readjustment of her saddlebags and walked after the rushing filly and the overweight mare, giving the old lady a smile and saying "Thank you" as she passed her by.
Tel smiles and follows them inside carrying his books "I have some materials to build mousetraps. I'm sorry, I'm a little out of my element but I'll help any way I can." he sets the books down at the table letting her look at the books collection. "I'll also offer to clean up whatever damages come up from the extermination. I have experience in restoration."
Tel lifts the cookie with his magic and opens the history of rat catching "I think we can start with a figure 4 trap with cheese and a large basket trap."
The elderly pony kindly greeted everyone as they made their way inside. As she followed Tel Locus in to the living room, she found that everyone was getting comfortable and eating the freshly baked cokies. She hid a smile behind a hoof as Hijinks audibly snored at Tel's plan.
"The rats seem to get in to the kitchen a lot. I'd say the food in the pantry draws them in," she said while gesturing to the next room which was the kitchen. "I'd ask you avoid going upstairs, you'll find only bedrooms up there, "she explained.
Hijinks grinned as she swallowed the cookie that she had just shoved in her mouth. "Don't worry, old lady. We'll get rid of these rats once and for all!" she declared.
The old lady nodded as she made her way back to the entrance hall where the stairs were. "If you need anything, yell out for me. I'll be in my room for now."
And with that, the four adventurers were left alone in the living room. Hijinks looked around at her three companions. "Uh..." she looked down at the books on the table. "Does anybody else have any other plans?" she asked, hoping that this quest won't involve studying. Tel pushed her to study more than the school would ask of her as it was. She didn't want to study rat catching as well.
Sweet Tooth's bottle green eyes lit up as she saw the big plate of cookies waiting for them in the living room. Of course food was not the reason she was here, but Sweet just couldn't resist the temptation of anything that presented itself as tasty. Her sizable belly was evidence of that. The roadie mare's tool belt jingled quietly as she made for the plate and took a cookie in her hoof. She bit into it and smiled. It was every bit as warm, soft, and gooey as it looked, and the chocolate chips tasted heavenly in her mouth. Quite a few of them vanished from the plate as she stood near it, and she would have stopped herself sooner had she not been paying attention to the ponies around her.
The unicorn, Tel Locus, seemed very smart, and it seemed like he literally wanted to do things by the book.
"I-I can build stuff," she added with a smile, "I brought a few traps with me, too."
The old mare then explained the rats liked to get in to the kitchen, probably for the food. The roadie mare nodded and gave the house's owner a wave as she vanished upstairs.
"Does anybody else have any other plans?"
Sweet turned to the bright-colored pegasus filly and cleared her throat.
"Well, um...maybe we should uh, try and find how the rats are gettin' in. I mean, maybe there's a hole somewhere we should plug up first. Maybe it's in the foundation or somethin'."

Aqua followed Sweet Tooth into the living room and also took a cookie, taking a bite Aqua closed her eye and savoured the chocolatey goodness, she opened her eyes again when Tel started speaking, Aqua then started making mental notes on what was said by everyone and also waved to the old lady alongside Sweet Tooth as she left.
Aqua walked over to the pile of books, and picked up Rat Tracking by S. Irwin and said " Those are both good ideas and if I may suggest, we put both to action".
Turning to Sweet Tooth, Aqua said "Sweet Tooth you said you were good at building things, you could start getting Tel's parts organized and ready to build traps" turning to Tel Aqua continued "Tel the figure 4 and large basket traps are great suggestions' help Sweet Tooth build them and look for others to build in your History of Rat Catching book".
Looking to Hijinks Aqua said "Hijinks and I can study this book and learn what to look for to find where the rats are coming from, both inside and outside, hopefully by the time we have done a sweep, Sweet Tooth and Tel will have plenty of traps to put down".
glancing at her saddlebags Aqua said "I have brought an first aid kit, some Tonics, a headlamp and some candles along with my stick" Aqua looking at it as if to say why did I bring this thing.
Aqua then finished with "has anyone got anything to add any improvements or any other ideas"
Tel Locus looks at Sweet and lowers his ears he hopes this Kelpie mare knows what she is doing. Because if there is something bigger than a normal rat down there he'd probably not going to handle it. "Pardon me, Miss Aqua, How do you suggest we should gather the materials? I Only brought the books for research and designing But I am not an Engineer."
Hijinks groaned. "Ugh, that sounds like utter snoresville. We shou-" The filly was interupted when a large crash came from the kitchen. "Wha?!" As eyes darted to the room to the kitchen, an abnormally large rat came scutlling through the open door. Hijinks gasped and suddnely shouted out to the group, "Quick! Roll for initiative!"
The rat squeaks in fear and rolls its own initiative.
